A division of Hyundai in the United States confirmed that it had been the victim of a cyberattack that allowed attackers to access sensitive information about some of its customers.
The incident, which occurred between February 22 and March 2, 2025, affected Hyundai AutoEver America (HAEA), a company responsible for developing technological solutions for the automotive industry.
According to the notification sent to the authorities, an unauthorized intrusion into its computer network was detected on March 1. The company immediately activated its emergency protocols, blocked external access, and requested support from cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic investigation and determine the scope of the incident.

Impact of the cyberattack on Hyundai and protective measures
The attackers reportedly gained access to the names, social security numbers, and driver's licenses of customers and employees.
Although the exact number of people affected has not yet been determined, Hyundai AutoEver offered free credit monitoring services for two years to those potentially affected, in order to prevent fraud or identity theft.
The company also recommended that those affected monitor their bank accounts, review their credit histories, and activate fraud alerts to prevent misuse of their information. So far, there is no evidence that the attack is related to ransomware, nor has any known group claimed responsibility.
Lessons for cybersecurity in Mexico
Although the case occurred in the United States, it represents a key example for Mexico, where more and more companies in the automotive sector depend on digital systems for their operations. Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of constantly assessing digital risks, implementing early detection protocols, and training staff in cyberattack prevention.
Hyundai's experience underscores the need for strategies such as Cyber Risk Assessment (CRA) to detect vulnerabilities before cybercriminals exploit them.
In an environment where personal and financial information has become a frequent target, strengthening corporate cybersecurity is no longer optional, but a priority.
At Cyberpeace, we recommend always remaining alert to digital risks and strengthening protective measures in all areas. Prevention and education in cybersecurity are essential to avoid incidents such as the recent cyberattack on Hyundai.
