An alleged cyberattack on Nike has put the global business sector on alert after a group of cybercriminals claimed to have accessed sensitive information belonging to the renowned sports brand.
The attackers claim that if they do not receive payment, they will make the data in their possession public.

Cyberattack on Nike and threat of data leak
According to information published on clandestine forums on the dark web, the group known as World Leaks claims that Nike is one of its most recent victims. The gang claims to have obtained internal company files and is using this alleged intrusion as a means of pressure to demand a financial ransom.
So far, no technical evidence has been released to confirm the veracity of the leak. It has not been specified whether the compromised data corresponds to customers, employees, or internal infrastructure, which keeps the situation under a high degree of uncertainty.
In response to these allegations, Nike reported that it is already investigating the incident.
In an official statement, the company reiterated that protecting consumer information and privacy is a priority and that all possible scenarios are being evaluated before conclusions are drawn.
Who is behind the attack?
World Leaks is a relatively new criminal group that focuses its operations on digital extortion. Their method consists of stealing corporate information and threatening to publish it if organizations do not meet their financial demands.
This group emerged in early 2025 after a previous ransomware group was reconfigured.
After international police action, they abandoned system encryption and opted exclusively for data theft and leakage as a means of pressure.
Since their emergence, they have claimed responsibility for dozens of attacks against companies in various sectors. Their track record also includes organizations with a presence in Mexico, demonstrating that no region is exempt from this type of risk.
A wake-up call for Mexico
The cyberattack on Nike can be taken as a clear example for Mexican companies. Digital globalization has meant that both large corporations and local companies face similar threats, regardless of their size or industry.
Previous cases in Mexico show that the lack of solid cybersecurity strategies can lead to information theft, operational disruptions, and reputational damage. Therefore, it is essential that organizations strengthen their security controls, constant monitoring, and incident response plans.
Investing in prevention and awareness is no longer optional: it is a necessity to protect digital assets and the trust of customers and partners.
At Cyberpeace, we believe that staying up to date on digital risks is key to reducing the impact of cyberattacks. Being informed, taking preventive measures, and acting in a timely manner makes all the difference in protecting data and systems.
