Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), one of the world's most renowned car manufacturers, continues to face serious difficulties following the cyberattack it suffered in early September.
The company confirmed that its assembly plants will remain shut down until October 1, 2025, meaning more than a month without producing vehicles or parts.
The magnitude of the impact is considerable: JLR accounts for a significant percentage of UK exports, and thousands of employees have been affected by the cyberattack. Some have been laid off, while others have been asked not to come to work. In total, the company has more than 30,000 direct employees and around 150,000 indirect employees.

Cyberattack and lessons for Mexico
The Jaguar Land Rover case is a clear example of how a cyberattack can put an entire industry in check. Although it happened in the United Kingdom, the lesson for Mexico is clear: automotive and manufacturing companies, which are a key part of national exports, could face similar consequences if they do not strengthen their digital security.
An attack of this magnitude not only disrupts production, but also affects jobs, supply chains, and the country's economy.
Company response to the cyberattack
The company explained that its cybersecurity teams are working closely with specialists and authorities to clean up any traces of malware, patch vulnerable devices, and strengthen network segmentation.
Although these measures prolong the suspension of activities, JLR believes this is the best way to ensure a safe return and avoid unexpected shutdowns in the future.
The manufacturer has described this pause as a “cautious” measure, focused on protecting employees, suppliers, and customers. With this, it seeks to resume operations with greater resilience against possible threats.
