French company Bouygues Telecom, the third largest in the country, confirmed that it had been the victim of a cyberattack that compromised the information of 6.4 million customers, including individuals and businesses.

The cyberattack affected 6.4 million customers
The attack, detected on August 4, was contained by the technical team two days later. However, the investigation revealed that cybercriminals managed to obtain data such as contact information, contract details, and international bank account numbers (IBAN).
Fortunately, passwords and credit card numbers were not compromised.
The company is already notifying those affected via email and text messages, warning them about possible fraud and identity theft. In addition, it filed a complaint with the French authorities, who are investigating the case and possible sanctions.
Mexico must strengthen its digital defenses
Although this incident occurred in France, it serves as a clear warning for Mexico, where sectors such as telecommunications and banking are recurring targets of cyberattacks.
The leakage of banking and personal data can be used by fraudsters to deceive victims and obtain more information.
This case demonstrates the need to implement stricter preventive measures: constant monitoring, immediate response protocols, and training for employees to identify fraud attempts. Cybersecurity should not be merely a reaction to incidents, but an active and ongoing strategy.
