Mexico suffers 31 billion cyberattacks in 6 months

During the first half of 2024, Mexico recorded more than 31 billion cyberattack attempts, an alarming figure that positions the country as the most attacked in Latin America, concentrating 55% of the incidents in the region, according to data published by Reuters and supported by Fortinet's cybersecurity report.

We are deeply concerned about this trend, not only because of the volume of attacks, but also because of the impact that this will continue to have in 2025, especially in the Mexican business and government sectors.

cyberattacks Mexico

What does this mean for organizations?

When you talk about 31 billion attempts, it's not just abstract numbers. Behind each one is a real threat:

  • Malware, ransomware, phishing and DDoS continue to top the most commonly used methods.

  • SMEs are easy targets due to their limited cybersecurity resources.

  • On average, a Mexican company can lose up to $155,000 USD per cyber incident, without considering reputational damage, penalties or loss of critical information.

Why Mexico?

Factors such as its economic and technological proximity to the United States, the growing digitalization of processes and the accelerated adoption of technologies (often without sufficient protection), have made Mexico fertile ground for cybercriminal groups.

In addition, the lack of a strong cyber-prevention culture and low investment in specialized equipment aggravate the situation.

What do we propose?

At Cyberpeace, we firmly believe that it is not just a matter of “reacting” to an attack, but of anticipating it.

Our approach is focused on:

  • Constant analysis of the digital environment (Threat Intelligence).

  • 24/7 active monitoring with expert teams.

  • Immediate response to incidents.

  • Continuous training for internal users.

  • Strengthening of critical infrastructure of companies and governments.

This volume of attacks is not a coincidence or an isolated phenomenon. It is a reflection of an urgent reality: Mexico needs to consolidate a national and corporate cybersecurity strategy.

From Cyberpeace we call on all organizations (public and private) to rethink their approach: it is not a matter of if they will be attacked, but when and how prepared they will be to respond.

Cybersecurity is no longer an option. It's a strategic priority.
