Orange suffers cyberattack in France

The telecommunications company Orange confirmed that it was the target of a new cyberattack in France. The incident was detected on Friday, July 25, when one of its information systems was compromised.

Although the company did not provide specific details about the attack for security reasons, it did assure that its operations in Spain were not affected.

Rapid response after detecting the attack

As soon as the intrusion was identified, Orange teams, in conjunction with its cybersecurity division Orange Cyberdefense, took action to contain the incident. The isolation measures implemented caused interruptions to some consumer services and business management platforms, mainly in France.

“Our specialized teams are actively informing and supporting affected customers,” the company said.

Orange cooperates with authorities

The company also reported that it has already filed a formal complaint and notified the relevant authorities, with whom it is working closely. Although it has not yet been confirmed whether this is a case of ransomware or how many users may have been affected, Orange maintains that there is no evidence of personal or internal data leakage.

Prior warning about cyber threats

This incident comes shortly after a warning issued by the French cybersecurity agency ANSSI, which alerted about possible state-sponsored attacks against critical infrastructure. The report details cyber espionage actions that may have compromised mobile and satellite networks, although no specific perpetrators were identified.

Incident history: another cyberattack on Orange

Orange, with more than 290 million users worldwide, has faced attacks in the past. In February, a hacker calling himself “Rey” claimed to have stolen more than 600,000 customer records, along with confidential company documents.

The attacker claimed to belong to the Hellcat group, which has been linked to previous cyberattacks on international companies.

Lessons for Mexico in cybersecurity

This new cyberattack on Orange highlights the need to strengthen digital defenses, not only in France, but also in countries such as Mexico, where the growth of digital services has made telecommunications companies attractive targets for cybercriminals. In this context, it is essential that Mexican organizations adopt a culture of preventive cybersecurity and remain alert to global threats.
