A recent security breach in the International Automobile Federation (FIA) driver classification portal put sensitive information about prominent Formula 1 competitors at risk, including current world champion Max Verstappen.
According to reports, the vulnerability was discovered by ethical cybersecurity researchers who detected that the system allowed privilege escalation and access to personal data such as passports, driver's licenses, and contact information.
Fortunately, the specialists immediately notified the FIA and deleted all the information obtained after confirming the breach.

The FIA strengthens its security following the security breach
As soon as the incident was reported, the FIA acted quickly to strengthen its systems and worked closely with investigators to fix the vulnerability. It also reported the case to the relevant authorities and implemented additional measures to prevent future incidents, reaffirming its commitment to protecting drivers' personal data and the integrity of its digital platforms.
Although it is unknown how long the flaw was active, there is currently no evidence that cybercriminals accessed or used the exposed information.
The incident affected both active drivers and those with FIA-authorized licenses.
What Mexico can learn from this incident
